Principal's Message
A strong community of learning excellence
As a large senior secondary college we are able to offer a broad and diverse curriculum which allows our students to structure their learning program to suit individual needs. Our courses include strong academic programs, nationally recognised vocational educational programs, cultural and sporting programs. Highly skilled teachers deliver our courses in the many specialist facilities.
At Hawker students continually endeavour to contribute to their social, cultural and academic outcomes and to their education and training; they strive for excellence in all they undertake. When you walk the corridors and learning areas of the college there is an atmosphere of purpose, of industry of achievement.
Students convey values of honesty and integrity in everything they do, they strive for uncompromising standards of excellence, and attempt to bring fairness and respect to the approach they undertake in all their activities across the college.
Hawker is a student centred college environment and our students are encouraged to take up some of the many opportunities offered to participate in extra-curricular activities.
To ensure that our students reach their full potential we provide extensive student support services that focus on course and careers planning and student welfare support.
The college continually develops strong links with the Hawker Collegiate Schools as well as collaboration with the Belconnen Network of schools across P-12 years. Students are given every opportunity connect to the local and broader community. These connections are in many cases hard to define because the two are so closely interconnected.
We support an approach to teaching that achieves improving college outcomes for students based on the following strategies:
• Know the status and progress of every student, connect with every student;
• Offer programs that allow every student to achieve a good outcome;
• Continually improve Teaching and Learning;
• Connect College to the local and wider community.

MySchool Website & Hawker College
The Federal government My School website www.myschool.edu.au went online at the end of January 2010. The range of data provided on the ACT secondary colleges is less comprehensive than the data which has been available for many years from the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Schools. I recommend their website www.bsss.act.edu.au in addition to MySchool.
