Of the graduating cohort of 2013:

Four students graduated from the ANU Secondary College program – two in Biology and one each in Physics and Mathematics.

Other achievements across the curriculum at Hawker College in 2013:

The Media Honours class filmed memoirs of the ACT’s surviving Rats of Tobruk during 2013. The resulting DVD, ‘Tales from Tobruk’, was launched on 9 December 2013 by Senator Zed Seselja.

At the CAT Awards, for the musical production All Shook Up in 2013, teacher was awarded Best Director of a School or Youth Company Musical. This award is highly coveted in the performing arts scene in Canberra. The field of nominations covered most of NSW.

Creative writing events and competitions - Poetry Slams, ICAS Writing Competition; where all participants achieved a Credit or higher, the ICAS English Competition – half participants with Distinction or higher, one student in top 1% of the state, and Creative Writing Competitions.

Gold medal for highest score in AMC (Maths), presented at Government House, Adelaide, in November 2013.

The Bridge Program in 2013 was run with an Indonesian partner school. The two colleges will work collaboratively on the Maths Olympiad program and environmental sustainability.

Sports Administration classes plan and implement the Ben Donohoe Walk and Run for Fun - a community fun run raising money for the Make A Wish Foundation and ACT Eden Monaro Cancer Support Group, raising over $50,000 in 2013, with more than 2000 participants which has now raised more than $400,000 over nine years.

History students had work celebrated on the ‘Clio’ website and participated in the National History Teachers’ Conference.

A Gold Medal for highest score in AMC (Maths) was presented at Government House, Adelaide, in November 2013 to a Hawker College Student.

A Hawker College student won a place at the 2013 Asian Science Camp. The Asian Science Camp brings together around 200 talented young people and aims to promote international cooperation and networks among the best young science students of the next generation in Asia, Australia and Oceania.

MindMatters

Hawker College became the first ACT government secondary college to achieve accreditation with the national MindMatters student wellbeing program.
