Social and Community Work

Social and Community Work (A/T/M)

Our Social and Community Work course offers a unique opportunity to explore the dynamics of individuals, communities and societies, and the interventions that empower them. Students use theories from social science to analyse challenges and issues, advocate for human rights, and promote strength-based approaches to support diverse populations. We focus on First Nations communities, people with disabilities, children, young people, our ageing population, and other marginalised groups, when investigating our units of study.

Skills development goes together with our study of rapidly changing contemporary society and the ways our communities are shaped and operate. In addition to developing insight and understanding, we tackle research and advocacy skills, communication and critical thinking, and skills for enabling and empowering diverse groups in our society. This experience will prepare students for a range of contexts in addition to social and community work, such as health care, education and policy development.
